Centro Hospitalar do Porto (CHP) is one of Portugal’s leading clinical and University hospitals. It belongs to the National Health System and was awarded since 2014 as the one with the best performance in Portugal. The Hospital Center is structured as a campus supported by three areas: the Hospital de Santo António (HSA) devoted to multisystem diseases and infectious disorders; Centro Materno Infantil do Norte (CMIN) for mother and child and Centro de Genética Médica (CGM) for genetics. A benchmarking analysis carried out by IASIST recognized CHP as the clinical leader in Portugal, giving it the best position in technologies and information systems for decision making in the health sector. CHP is the affiliate Hospital for the Master in Medicine of Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, University of Porto, it has an Academic Clinical Center and supports the internships for medical specialties. The Department of Education, Training and Research (DEFI) of CHP offers wide support for clinical researchers, including assistance with projects, funding and budget. DEFI supports multinational clinical trials, medical device studies and observational studies. The level of specialization of the hospital, coupled with the high competencies in care and clinical research capacity, prompted the attribution of thirteen national reference centers and the inclusion of CHP in European networks of rare diseases.
